Ingredients

  • 1 large loaf French Bread
  • ½ yellow onion (diced)
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 (15oz) can sloppy joe sauce
  • 3 cups shredded cheddar cheese

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 350° F and line a large sheet pan with parchment paper.
  • Cut the loaf of French bread in half lengthwise and place it on your prepared baking sheet.
  • In a large skillet over medium heat, sauté the diced onions with a bit of oil or butter for 3-4 minutes, or until soft and starting to brown.
  • Add the ground beef to the pan and crumble until no longer pink. Remove any excess grease and mix in the can of sloppy joe sauce.
  • Spread the ground beef mixture evenly over your bread halves and then top with shredded cheese.
  • Bake in the center rack for 10-15 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and the edges of the French bread are nice and toasty.
  • Allow to cool for a few minutes, and then slice and enjoy!

Notes

  • Any shredded cheese can be used for this recipe including cheddar, Monterey Jack, or Colby Jack. I ended up using about 3 cups of cheese, but measure with your heart!
